Before you connect · Frequently asked questions
A little clarity.
A more comfortable next step.
Choosing care can bring questions of its own. Here are a few answers to help you feel more comfortable taking your next step.
Getting started
Do I need a diagnosis before reaching out?
No. You can begin with what you have been noticing, even if you do not have a name for it. Your evaluation gives me time to understand your concerns, history, and what you hope will change.
How do I begin care?
If you feel ready, choose Begin Your Care to view my Headway profile and choose an appointment. If you would like a brief conversation first, visit Let’s Talk About You for details about the optional introductory call.
Is the free 15-minute call required?
No. It is an optional conversation to ask general questions and explore whether my practice feels like a good fit. You can choose an appointment directly through Headway. The introductory call is not a psychiatric evaluation or treatment visit.
How does the introductory call work?
Call me directly at (240) 875-6149. I may be able to answer. If I am unavailable, leave your name, callback number, and a brief message, and I will return your call. Please keep detailed medical information out of your voicemail.
Appointments and treatment
How long are appointments?
Initial psychiatric evaluations are 60 minutes. Follow-up appointments are 45–60 minutes. Therapy-only appointments are typically 50–60 minutes.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
I take time to listen to what has brought you here. I ask about your symptoms, health history, previous care, daily life, and goals. Together, you and I discuss the next steps that fit your needs.
Do you offer therapy without medication?
Yes. Therapy-only appointments are available. You do not have to take medication to receive care in my practice.
Will medication be part of my care?
Medication management is one option, not a requirement. Depending on your needs, your care may include psychotherapy, supportive strategies, medication, or a combination. I explain the options so you can take part in decisions about your treatment.
What kinds of therapy do you offer?
My approach may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), supportive therapy, and EMDR when clinically appropriate. I tailor the approach to your concerns, readiness, and goals.
What if several concerns seem connected?
You do not need to choose just one concern before reaching out. Mood, sleep, attention, hormonal changes, eating patterns, and life experiences can influence one another. I consider those connections as I develop your care plan with you.
Insurance and payment
How can I check my insurance coverage?
Visit my Headway profile to check your insurance and available appointment options. Coverage and out-of-pocket costs depend on your plan. Confirm your benefits and expected costs before your appointment.
Can I pay privately?
Self-pay appointments are available. Contact me for current rates.
Telehealth and connecting
Are appointments virtual?
Yes. My practice provides care through telehealth. Choose a quiet, private space for your appointment where you can speak comfortably.
How can I ask a question before beginning?
You can use the Contact page for general questions or choose the optional introductory call. Please avoid sending detailed medical information through the website contact form.
